  • Two weeks ago I returned from a fantastic trip to Uganda.  We took a team of college students and professionals to the city of Gulu in Northern Uganda.  Part of our team spent time training missionaries, pastors, care providers, and community leaders from the area.  The training addressed issues related to the psychosocial affects of trauma on individuals and communities.  The other part of our team spent the week with a group of steet children.  We used some of the principles presented in the training to conduct a camp with the kids.  Using play and art therapy we lead the children in exercises to help them begin to heal from the trauma they experienced.  It was a powerful week.  This video illustrates some of the adventure of our time in Africa.  It includes pictures of traveling to Uganda, meeting Bono and The Edge in Nairobi, our Safari, and some of the kids we met.  The song reminds us that in spite of the broken places in our world we have a hope because of Jesus.

    Hi Coughlins!!!!!

It is great to hear from you!!!!  Jon it sounds like your first ministry trip went amazingly well!  It is great to hear how God is using you in your new ministry.  Everyone at youth group is doing well, although we miss all of you!  Max is getting ready to leave for India on Sunday and I know he would appreciate any prayers.  Our new church-River of Life Baptist Church is up and running-and growing!  We have three other families right now and are going to be meeting in the Hampton Inn in Winchester beginning in two weeks!  Is God amazing or what???  Thanks for keeping us posted!

    Blessings,

What beautiful children.  Those drawings were so sad; I'm glad you were able to be there and provide some good experiences.

    Hi Jon and Kristy,

How wonderful to hear from you.  You are missed but looks like God is using you in an amazing way.  I know Jana will want to join you on your next mission trip and maybe a visit soon.  She leaves for Clemson University on June 29.  So maybe when she has a break from school and even next summer.  Thank you for adding me to your blog.  I can't wait to hear about your next steps.  Any chance you will be mailing me the kids?  Love you Risse

Excellent! A great way to keep up with your work. Jocelyn had a great experience on the trip -- which she'll share with our Adult Forum in May. Looking forward to it. Anna sends her best to Roc. Take care.

Very cool, Jon!  I know Jocelyn had a terrific time - many of the pictures are the same as our group that just returned from Tanzania.  Sad, but beautiful all rolled together - God's work is truly happening among those people.  Peace to the Coughlin's

    Hey Jon and Kristy!

Jon your Uganda trip looks like it was incredible! What an awesome experience! I wish I could've tagged along. I hope God continues to use you (all four of you!) to transform, enliven and brighten the lives of others. God's hand is certainly on you and your family. I pray that you and Kristy would be united both in purpose and in Christ and that God would use you in ways you haven't even thought of yet! Roc and Shekinah, I pray that God would fit you like a glove to His almighty hand as you continue to grow. Be uniquely and individually molded by Him into powerful children of faith. I miss you guys a ton and I can't wait to visit sometime after I get home. Keep up the good work! Fight the good fight and finish the race!

    Max
